Car insurance prices now down 25% from 2011 peak

The latest Confused.com Car Insurance Price Index shows the average cost of comprehensive car insurance for Q4 2013 was £644, down 12.5% year on year.

The saving of £214, some 25%,  from the all-time high in Q2 2011 offering welcome respite for UK motorists.

The EU Gender Directive, which took effect in December 2012, means insurers can no longer use gender as a pricing factor. As a result, young men were the main beneficiaries of comprehensive price reductions during 2013 as 17-20 year olds seeing their premiums fall by 23%.
