The new Private Motor Insurance Market Report, published by Lake Market Research has shown a significant rise in the number of uninsured cars.
Lake compared DfT data on the number of private cars in use and insurance industry data on the number of private cars insured. This reveals the proportion of private cars insured peaked at almost 100% in 2006 but, following the financial crisis, it has since been falling. The proportion of 91% for 2012 equates to 2.5 million cars uninsured in the UK.
