One of the earliest Jaguar D-Types ever produced is expected to sell for around £5.5million.

The car is one of just 53 models that were produced in 1954 by the British firm.

It was originally owned by Australia racer Bib Stillwell, who raced it extensively across the country during its early years.

The pristine roadster was then bought by British racing legend Richard Attwood, who went onto win the 1970 24 Hours of Le Mans in a Porsche 917.

Since then, the D-Type has had a string of different owners, who have used it sparingly and kept it in its original condition.

3.4-litre straight six

Under the bonnet is a 3.4-litre straight six engine, capable of taking the car to 160mph.

The auction will take place in Paris on February 5.

Augustin Sabatié-Garat, European auction manager at RM Sotheby’s, said: “The Jaguar D-Type we have coming to sale is of exceptional interest to the classic car industry, and we are proud to bring it to auction.

“As the seventh customer D-Type ever produced, this highly original Jaguar is a fine example of one of the most desirable sports racing cars of all time.

“This example’s specific history is especially intriguing following a successful racing career in Australia, with many period wins and podium finishes in the most highly celebrated events

“.This remarkable D-Type has been looked incredibly well and would be an excellent addition to the garage of any international collector.”
