A local mechanic has lost £80,000 worth of specialist equipment in a fire that destroyed a commercial building on Newton Abbot’s Heathfield Industrial Estate on 29 July.

The fire required a significant response from the local fire service, with eight pumps, two aerial ladder platforms, and two water bowsers in attendance. Nearby homes were also evacuated as smoke could be seen and smelt for miles around.

A fundraiser has been launched by Western Medical Services to support the mechanic, Dave, who was storing his tools in the damaged unit. Without his equipment, Dave is unable to continue his business.

The fundraiser has already raised over £1,000 in less than 24 hours. All proceeds will go towards helping Dave rebuild his business.
