Halfords has announced a significant training investment which includes plans to train another 100 electric vehicle technicians and 1,400 e-bike and e-scooter ‘store servicers’.

The company said the move is critical to try and reduce the UK’s electric skills gap.

Halfords, chief executive Graham Stapleton said: “We are making a substantial investment in further training for existing colleagues, including in the rapidly growing area of electric vehicle servicing as we work to fill the skills gap that exists in the UK.

“We will be training 100 more electric car technicians next year, bringing the total to 470.

“In addition, we will be growing the number of e-bike and e-scooter servicers in our stores from 400 to over 1,800.

“This means that, by April, each of Halfords’ garages will have at least one electric car technician, with electric bike and scooter servicers in every store”

It estimates the overall number of technicians will need to double each year in order to service the approximately 11 million EVs that will be on the country’s roads in 2030.

The plans follow confirmation this week that new petrol and diesel cars will be banned from 2030 and hybrid cars from 2035.

Excuse me, did you just say Halfrauds AND electric car in the same sentence?

They are incapable of anything – starting with this anti social
Distances thing – seen them huddled together under one car on an ramp.

Training technicians is one thing. Keeping them with poverty spec wages and impossible targets is another. I hope Halfords take this into account.
