Left to right: Gary Wood of ECP and Colin Chatburn of Klarius Products Ltd present Robert Holt from TSG Motors in Slough with his Klarius accreditation certification.

The course aims to increase garage technicians’ knowledge regarding emissions components, exploring their function, failure modes and governing legislation.

Technicians from seven garages have just passed the first level, and will now have the opportunity to continue the final two modules of the course in the future.

Garages certified by Klarius include C&S Hayes of Newcastle upon Lyme, GR8 Motors of Slough, K&M Auto Centre of Nottingham, Merityre of Andover, ProAuto near Bicester, TSG of Slough and Warrens Garage of Camberley.

These independent garages have demonstrated a high level of technical knowledge regarding emissions components, as well as displaying modern facilities and a high level of service.

The level 1 course spans over two days and is separated into four modules: exhausts; catalytic converters (CATs); diesel particulate filters (DPFs); and additive systems.

Designed to help tackle the challenges that technicians encounter on a day-to-day basis, the course content is designed to provide essential information regarding emissions components, helping to reduce the amount of time spent problem solving and time on the ramp making repairs.

The desired outcome is to provide motorists with replacement components of a higher quality and correct fitment, which will help to preserve the reliability, performance and fuel efficiency of their vehicle while helping garages to remain profitable.

Doug Bentley, head of research and development at Klarius played a key role in developing the training materials: “We are delighted to announce that these selected garages have passed the first year of our IMI accredited emissions training.

“These technicians now have great knowledge regarding the function, failure modes and legislation regarding all aspects of the emissions system and we hope that this knowledge will aid their businesses in the replacement of emissions components.

“Reception of the course has been overwhelmingly positive, we will be training technicians across the country over the next few months and beginning section two of the course next year, so a lot to look forward to.”

A perfect course

One attendee commented: “It’s a perfect course, and explained very well. I am very happy with the knowledge that has been passed on – I would recommend it to any mechanic.”

Another said: “I learnt a lot more information on something that I thought I already had a basic understanding of, so an excellent course. Looking forward to level two!”

All Klarius exhausts, DPFs and CATs are type-approved to ensure they meet or exceed the performance of the original by regulatory bodies such as the VCA and TÜV.

The company operates an in-house emissions test track, state-of-the-art manufacturing facility and warehouse that stocks 10,000+ product references.

The entire range is available on next day delivery to stockists across the UK, which translates to same-day for most garages, and all products fitted by an accredited Klarius garage are supplied with a 3 year warranty and a ‘Fit First Time’ guarantee.

Having passed the rigorous standards approval process, Klarius is a fully accredited IMI training centre, with Klarius emissions training available to independent garages who sign up to the accredited garage scheme.
