Cosworth’s new engine manufacturing facility intends to include some of the world’s most advanced technologies when it starts production in 2015.
The new ‘centre of excellence’ is expected to create 270 jobs from £19 million investment. It will assemble the famous brand’s high-performance engines for a number of car makers.
Chief among the new tech will be a Flexible Manufacturing System (FMS). This enables the production of different V6, V8 or V12 engines on the same assembly line with a simple electronic re-programming, rather than a complex re-tooling operation.
Hal Reisiger, CEO, Cosworth Group Holdings Ltd, said, “Cosworth aims to be an exemplar for British engineering companies, applying lean processes and marketing to create demand for products and services.
“The FMS line will machine high integrity metals and complex alloys. It will enable Cosworth to produce some of the world’s most advanced engines for a number of the most recognised high performance vehicle manufacturers.”
