The DVSA is calling on garages to promote customer vehicle ‘health checks’ as the sector prepares for a slump in the number of vehicles requiring an MOT.

The ‘Whatever your essential journey, make it SAFE’ campaign which went live on Friday 5 March, encourages motorists who need to drive to carry out essential checks and promotes the value of getting professional services from a local garage.

A DVSA spokesperson said: “Last year, we helped you to encourage motorists to come in early and ‘Beat the Rush’.

“We now want to help you promote your other safety checks to motorists, like a health check or service, during the quieter months.”

The DVSA has launched a new campaign to help motorists to check their vehicle is safe and encouraging them to get a ‘vehicle health check’ at their garage.

The spokesperson added: “To help you manage the shortfall in MOT work, we’ve developed another toolkit to help you reach out to customers who need to drive.

“It’s designed to help you contact them to offer a service or health check for peace of mind, provide information about how to do simple vehicle safety checks and ask them to consider going back to their original MOT date.”

Garages are invited to download the DVSA’s latest toolkit and to use the templates for social media and email messages to customers.

Our staff winter holiday period is normally 1st October to 31st March.
For this year it is extended to mid May.
Result higher staff levels in Feb and March, happy workers swopping a week in dreary Feb for a week in sunny May.

    interesting
has any one from the dvsa ever dealt with the cash strapped british public ?
they are reluctant to pay for an mot and any minor repairs
how on earth do they think you can get them to come in to a garage for a health check ?
have they been out in the dark recently we reckon that at least 1 in 3 cars on the road has bulbs out and when any of us park anywhere we have a look at other cars tyres and a large amount are below legal limit
the issue no traffic cops and no stop and check dvsa operations
to be honest as a garage owner and mot tester of 30 years i am along with many others fed up with people who have no idea about the trade or the public making silly suggestions and rules
come and work with us for a week and you will see the british public and how they view garages in the flesh
