Brand new EV catches fire on family driveway

A family in Worcester was left traumatised after their electric car spontaneously burst into flames in their driveway while they slept. The incident occurred in the early hours of January 29th, with firefighters called to the scene to extinguish the blaze.

The mother, who was awoken by a loud bang, described the scene as chaotic, with flames engulfing the vehicle. She quickly evacuated her three children and their dog from the house.

The 2024 Peugeot, which had not been in use for several hours prior to the incident, was completely destroyed by the fire. The explosion also caused damage to the adjacent wall and the driveway.

Firefighters from Worcester, Droitwich, and Malvern attended the scene and extinguished the fire within an hour.

West Mercia Police are investigating the incident, although initial investigations suggest it was not a deliberate act of arson.

Peugeot has been contacted for comment on the incident.

  5. An electric vehicle catches fire and everyone loses their minds. A petrol or diesel vehicle catches fire and people look the way and accept it’s just a normal everyday occurrence. Various sources online state that (depending on the study and the country of origin), electric vehicles are between 20 and 80 times less likely to catch fire compared to combustion engine vehicles. Some people are so anti-EV and will never adapt to change or accept there are viable alternative solutions.

  6. The thing is usually petrol or diesel vehicle catch fire due to bad maintanence or age related decay to fuel pipes or electrics and so on, these electric cars seem to just have a bad day battery cells short out or something and catch fire on fairly new vehicles, and are a bitch to put out. not sure if it down to low quality chinese batteries fitted in some cars, i became aware of a 12 volt issue on some toyotas, the 12 volt battery was right next to main battery cells under back seat, 12 volt battery had issue they would expand to half their size again and get very hot.
