A recent survey by Digidentity has revealed that UK drivers are increasingly concerned about the security of their vehicle data. This growing awareness is influencing their choice of garage for servicing and repairs.

The survey found that 64% of drivers feel they lack control over their vehicle’s data, while 60% worry about potential data exploitation. This concern is particularly pronounced among electric vehicle owners, with 85% prioritising garages that demonstrate strong data security measures.

To address these concerns, the automotive industry is taking steps to enhance data security practices. SERMI, a European certification scheme, will soon be launched in the UK to ensure garages securely access vehicle manufacturer data for efficient and safe repairs.

“Modern vehicles are becoming increasingly connected, and data security is a top priority for drivers,” said Marcel Wendt, CTO and founder of Digidentity. “Garages need to be transparent about their data practices to build trust with their customers.”

By prioritising data security, garages can differentiate themselves and attract customers who value both technical expertise and responsible data handling.
