A Land Rover driver, Rob Kelly, staged a six-hour protest by blocking the entrance to a Vertu Land Rover dealership in Leeds after they refused to repair his engine under warranty.
Kelly, 31, whose £120,000 Urban Defender Land Rover broke down in January, initially had gear issues resolved under warranty. However, when he requested further engine repairs, the dealership declined, claiming the vehicle was overdue for servicing and that the engine had suffered oil loss.
Kelly, who operates his own used car dealership, insisted his vehicle was still under its three-year warranty. He then parked his lorry across the dealership entrance, demanding a new engine.
During the six-hour standoff, Kelly posted TikTok videos of the protest, which gained millions of views. He told drivers stuck behind his lorry that he would not move until his engine was repaired.
Police attended the scene but did not compel Kelly to move his vehicle. He remained at the dealership until the evening.
The following day, Kelly was invited to a meeting with dealership representatives, who requested he remove his TikTok videos. He refused.
Ultimately, the dealership agreed to repair the engine as a “gesture of goodwill.” Kelly is now awaiting the engine’s arrival and is using a courtesy vehicle.
Kelly estimated the repair would have cost him around £20,000.
Vertu Land Rover stated that their initial interpretation of the warranty and service agreement was correct, but they resolved the issue by repairing the vehicle as a goodwill gesture.
West Yorkshire Police confirmed they attended the scene and that the vehicle was removed voluntarily, with no offences recorded.

So he allegedly wasn’t maintaining his vehicle in accordance with manufacturer guidelines and therefore broke the T&Cs of the warranty agreement, then had a sissy fit when they said no.
I wonder how many warranty claims on the used cars he has sold have been rejected, even when maintained in accordance with manufacturer guidelines and how he would react if a disgruntled customer was to block his business?
