CCTV footage has captured the moment an electric car parked on a driveway in Chandler’s Ford, Hampshire, suddenly caught fire last week. The resulting blaze spread to a nearby van and the front of a family home, valued at £550,000.
The incident occurred at approximately 5 am while the car was charging overnight. Photographs taken after the fire was extinguished reveal significant damage, including the charred remains of three vehicles – two cars and a van. The façade of the house also sustained substantial fire damage. Neighbours reported that a young family resided at the property.
Fortunately, the family managed to evacuate safely, and no injuries were reported. A neighbour described seeing flames emanating from the house as it began to catch fire.
Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that crews from three fire stations – Eastleigh, Redbridge, and St Mary’s – were dispatched to the scene shortly before 5 am following multiple emergency calls. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the property to extinguish the fire using hose reels and jets. The electricity, gas, and water supplies to the building were isolated before the incident was handed over to Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary officers. The fire was successfully extinguished by 7:30 am.
This incident follows a similar occurrence in January when an electric vehicle in Worcester caught fire on a family’s driveway overnight while they were asleep. The owner described hearing a loud bang and discovering flames reflecting in neighbours’ windows, leading to the family’s rapid evacuation.

With a title of “CCTV footage has captured the moment an electric car…” wouldn’t you expect there to be a link to the footage referred to? Or at least a hint of where to find said CCTV footage?
Otherwise, it makes it look like yet more click-bait and reduces the likelihood that I’m going to click any other link on here to read any of your other stories and therefore reducing the need for your service entirely.
Just saying…

The vehicles shown are very small 2 door vehicles. Identified by one source as G-wiz’s which are about 20 years old from India. Not relevant to the present day car park. not popular judging by very poor sales.
