A fire broke out at the Stratstone Land Rover Stockton showroom on the evening of 2 January. Fire crews from Stockton and Thornaby responded to the incident, using breathing apparatus and other equipment to extinguish the flames.
The fire, believed to have originated from an electric vehicle (EV) charging point, was contained to the workshop area of the showroom. While some vehicles were affected by smoke, there were no reports of fire damage to any vehicles.
The showroom remains temporarily closed, but sales and service operations will continue from the JLR service centre in Houghton Le Spring.
An investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the fire.

I believe some insurance companies exclude cover on vehicles being charged indoors.
Also, why is there a press embargo on electric vehicle fires?

A quick search shows – Electric vehicles are 20 times LESS likely to catch fire than ICE vehicles.
Approximately 60% of EV battery fires are caused by thermal runaway in the battery.
The failure rate of lithium-ion batteries is estimated to be 1 in 40 million if used correctly – overcharging, overheating and other issues may increase this risk.

Graham, so does that not point out a fault with the electric side of things?? if it overheats then a fault with the charger, if it overcharges then again fault with the charging which would not happen with an ICE which says EV’s are a potential risk when on charge?
