Mike Ross, owner of 8BallTuning in Greshop Industrial Estate, is offering free mechanic training to young people in the Moray area.

Recognising a significant skills gap within the automotive industry, Ross established Inspiring Foundations, a charity that provides free access to the Automotive Skills Level 4 SCQF course for both school pupils and adults.

The course, delivered at 8BallTuning, covers a wide range of topics, from basic vehicle maintenance such as changing tyres and servicing vehicles to more advanced skills such as engine and gearbox repair.

Ross, who himself achieved success in the automotive industry through his own apprenticeship, is passionate about inspiring the next generation of mechanics.

“We aim to change the perception of the automotive trade,” says Ross. “It’s not just about getting your hands dirty; it’s a challenging and rewarding career path.”

Since its inception, the programme has successfully trained 28 school pupils and one adult. While the charity has faced challenges in accommodating more adult learners due to increased demand for school-based training, it continues to seek funding and support to expand its reach.

Inspiring Foundations welcomes donations and sponsorships to ensure the continued success of its free mechanic training programmes.
