Two mechanics from a Cwmbran garage have been sentenced to jail terms for issuing fraudulent MOT certificates.
Darren Hoare and Stephen White were motivated by greed, issuing certificates to vehicles without conducting the necessary inspections.
The pair charged £100 per fake MOT, pocketing thousands of pounds. By bypassing proper checks, they potentially put lives at risk by allowing dangerous vehicles onto the road.
The scam was uncovered by the DVLA, who used ANPR data to identify discrepancies between the issued MOT certificates and the actual vehicle inspections.
The court heard that both defendants expressed remorse for their actions. However, Judge Paul Hobson emphasised the serious nature of their crime, stating that they had “gambled with people’s lives.”
Hoare and White were sentenced to suspended prison terms and ordered to complete community service and pay fines.

Where is the real deterrent here? There are far to many examples of bent MOT testers, because they know there no real consequences.
