Stuart Mann, director of The Pitstop tyre and service centre in Hartlepool, is launching a road safety campaign offering free tyre checks to motorists.

Mann’s personal experience with a serious car crash, which resulted in life-altering injuries, has motivated him to take action to prevent others from suffering a similar fate.

“My accident changed my life forever,” said Mann. “If I can help just one person avoid what I went through then it’s worth it.”

Government statistics reveal that 190 people were killed or seriously injured in the year ending June 2024 due to vehicles with illegal, defective, or underinflated tyres. Research also indicates that only two in five drivers can correctly identify an illegal tyre.

Mann’s initiative aims to raise awareness about tyre safety and ensure that vehicles on the road are equipped with safe and legal tyres. He is working with local MP Jonathan Brash to promote the campaign.

  2. A little ironic that a Pitstop director didn’t check his own cars tyres before his accident.

  3. completely agree sometimes the tyre is so thing in those places you can push it in, yet you still cannot fail it. I do know however that the police deem this as unfit for the road so why is it not an mot failure.
