A recent study by CarVertical has revealed that only 28% of recalled vehicles in the UK have had their defects addressed.
The analysis of vehicle history reports from January 2023 to September 2024 found that a significant number of vehicles with outstanding recalls remain on the road.
This data suggests that many UK drivers may be unaware of recalls affecting their vehicles or may not be taking the necessary steps to have the issues resolved.
While many recalls involve minor issues, some, such as the Takata airbag recall, can pose serious safety risks.
The UK has one of the lowest overall car recall rates among the 26 countries studied, with only 3.1% of cars recalled at least once.
CarVertical emphasises the importance of obtaining a comprehensive vehicle history report to identify any outstanding recalls and ensure vehicle safety.

2015 Mercedes GL 350 recalled to have steering rack anchor bolts replaced, 1 week after the recall the new bolts where found to be loose. Can’t help but think it would of been better left alone.

There is a recall on Audi A3, (2010), I’ve spoken to Audi, it’s for ABS module update. There are a couple issues with this. At the moment they assure me there is no safety defect with the vehicle. The recall is for software update only. If the update is done I will likely leave with a safety defect as the ABS light will be illuminated and the ABS system will be disabled. The repair will then cost ME an ABS module which is currently on back order with no ETA. I could be without a car, at MY cost for months!
