IMI calls for MOT testers to complete e-learning before deadline

Over 28,000 testers face suspension if annual assessment is not completed by 31 March

IMI calls for MOT testers to complete e-learning before deadline
The DVSA highlights improvements made to the MOT testing service in its 2016 to 2017 review.

The Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) is advising MOT testers to utilise its e-learning resources to complete their annual assessments before the 31 March deadline. Failure to meet this deadline will result in suspension from MOT testing.

The IMI’s three-hour e-learning package is designed for flexible learning, allowing testers to complete it in short sessions. The assessment can be taken twice, aiding testers in achieving the required 80% pass rate set by the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA).

While many testers have completed their assessments, over 28,000 still need to do so. The annual assessment ensures testers remain compliant and legally authorised to conduct MOT tests.

Lindsey Mitchell, director of development, quality and compliance at the IMI, emphasised the consequences of missing the deadline. Testers who fail will be suspended from testing on April 1. They will be required to complete the current year’s assessment, a DVSA demonstration test, and a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.

This process can lead to a loss of income for MOT testing stations due to the time required to complete these steps.

Completion of the IMI MOT Training and Assessment entitles testers to free IMI membership, provided they opt-in.
