New figures reveal significant disparities in MOT test waiting times across Northern Ireland, with Belfast drivers facing the longest delays.
The average wait time in September for a test at the Belfast centre was 65 days, well above the six-week target set by the Department for Infrastructure (DfI).
While some centres, such as Newtownards, managed to keep wait times below 45 days, others like Downpatrick, Newry, and Enniskillen saw average waits of over 60 days.
The DfI has taken steps to address the issue, including hiring new vehicle examiners and offering additional appointments. However, the average wait time in September remained above the target.
The department attributes the varying wait times to factors like local demand, test centre capacity, and equipment maintenance. They remain committed to reducing wait times and aim to achieve an average of six weeks or less by March 2025.
