A mechanic is on trial at Oxford Crown Court accused of causing a car crash while demonstrating a new braking system he had just installed.
Richard Masters, 57, is alleged to have lost control of a VW Golf while testing a brake bias system, causing the car to lock its rear wheels, spin and crash into a ditch. The passenger sustained a broken back.
Masters denies dangerous driving, claiming he was unaware of any issues with the braking system. The prosecution alleges that the braking system was incorrectly installed, with excessive braking force applied to the rear wheels.
The court heard that braking bias systems are typically used in racing, not standard vehicles, and that the system in question was not properly regulated.
Masters is expected to claim his mechanics were responsible for checking the braking system.
