New research reveals that nearly one in five vehicles (9.9 million) failed their MOT test in 2023. The RAC Foundation study analysed 43.7 million tests conducted last year.

Some concerning cases involved vehicles with a high number of faults, with one car exhibiting a staggering 29 “dangerous” or “major” issues.

Some of the more unusual reasons for failing an MOT included a missing nearside front brake disc in 31 tests, a steering lock inadvertently engaging in 64 tests, and the spare wheel being likely to become detached in 186 tests.

These findings emphasise the importance of regular car maintenance to ensure safety and avoid potential MOT failures. Drivers are advised to conduct pre-MOT checks to identify and address any issues prior to the test.

  1. 31 N/S/F brake disc missing! Don’t these people even wonder why the car is pulling violently to one side when braking?

  2. We haven’t seen any of those nightmares yet but have seen an increase in advisories from the year prior not been addressed by the customer, resulting in dangerous failures. These people seem to be responsible people with children. We have had to have a polite word to let them know the dangers they are putting themselves and other road users in.

Public information aimed at the public, highlighting all of the trade issues that some of us, probably most of us come across daily in one form or other.! As trade and maybe some will agree or disagree, we need some decent subjects, articles and info that is actually worth a read, get our teeth into, and is good for us all to chew over.!🤷🏻‍♂️🙏🏻
