Nelson and Colne College Group (NCCG) is launching a new T Level qualification in Electric Vehicle Maintenance and Repair, specifically designed for 16-18 year olds. The college is calling for local businesses in the automotive industry to collaborate on this initiative.

The course, based at the Accrington and Rossendale College campus, aims to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical skills needed for careers in the evolving electric vehicle sector. Students will benefit from a blend of classroom learning, guest lectures, site visits, employer-led projects, and a 42-day work placement.

Developed in collaboration with industry leaders, the program focuses on real-world skills and industry demands. A large portion of the course leverages digital learning tools, fostering independence and self-management. Additionally, each student will receive career coaching from an employability specialist tutor, ensuring they are well-prepared for the workforce.

“Partnering with NCCG for work placements is an investment in your business’s future,” said Ayub Moosa, Head of Department for Motor Vehicle and Construction at NCCG. “These students are the next generation of skilled professionals, and it’s vital to involve businesses from the start to ensure success.”

The program offers benefits for both students and businesses. Students will gain the necessary skills and experience to launch successful careers in electric vehicle maintenance, while businesses can tap into a pool of qualified talent and fresh perspectives.

NCCG is also planning to offer short courses in 2025 to upskill existing employees in electric vehicle maintenance and repair, helping businesses stay competitive in the rapidly changing industry.
