A groundbreaking new tyre recycling plant is set to open in Linwood, Renfrewshire. Approved by the Scottish Government, the facility will be the first of its kind in the UK, addressing the growing issue of waste tyre disposal.
SSH Recycling, a Renfrewshire-based company, will operate the plant, which aims to recycle or repurpose every component of waste tyres. The facility is expected to create around 80 jobs and attract over £120 million in investment to the region.
Construction is scheduled to begin in 2025, with operations commencing by 2027. The plant will process up to 100,000 tonnes of waste tyres annually, reducing carbon emissions and providing a sustainable solution for tyre disposal.
Recycled materials from the plant will be used in various applications, including tyre manufacturing, industrial products, and construction. Additionally, the facility will incorporate environmentally friendly features such as flood-resilient infrastructure and an on-site energy system powered by microturbines.
This latest project demonstrates the potential for a circular economy solution within the tyre industry.
