Oldham mechanic Jody Bevan, known as “Auto Lass,” is restoring a 1996 Vauxhall Calibra to be raffled for charity. This project marks her third charity restoration, following a 1980 Morris Ital and a 1975 MG Midget.
The Calibra, nicknamed “The Captain,” holds personal significance for Jody, as her late father always wanted one. She has chosen to donate all raffle proceeds to Help for Heroes, a veterans charity, due to her partner and relatives’ military service.
Restoration work is underway, though the project’s duration remains uncertain. Jody described her previous restoration as a “mammoth” task, revealing unexpected chassis issues.
The Calibra’s final appearance is yet to be revealed, but the team has test-fitted a kit and new wheels, expressing admiration for the vehicle’s potential. Jody plans to incorporate sporty modifications, while ensuring the car can be returned to its original state if desired.
She hopes the car will attract younger car enthusiasts and encourage them to pursue careers in the automotive industry. Jody believes that working on classic cars provides a solid foundation for understanding modern engines.
Team member Brent Burnett, who won her first restoration, was inspired to join her team and co-host her YouTube channel. Jody is also passionate about encouraging more women to enter the trade.
Progress on the restoration can be followed on YouTube and Facebook, where details on how to donate are also available. Raffle tickets cost £10 and can be purchased via PayPal, in person, or through bank transfers.
Donors are added to a “Bloomin’ Wall,” which is featured in Jody’s YouTube videos. Businesses and individuals can also purchase “plant pots” of ten tickets. Donors who do not have space for the car can choose to re-donate their ticket.
