A Perthshire garage has reported an incident where a man allegedly stole tools from an apprentice while he was assisting a tourist with a tyre change.

CCTV footage from Blair Atholl Garage appears to show a man taking a Milwaukee battery gun, valued at approximately £350, from the forecourt on Thursday, 5 June.

The tool belonged to a young apprentice. A garage worker, who wished to remain anonymous, expressed disappointment, stating: “It’s just disappointing it was a young apprentice who spent his hard-earned money to buy the gun.” The tool was left beside the car while the apprentice was working on a tyre.

Police Scotland confirmed they are investigating a report of theft at the premises in the Bridge of Tilt area around 11:25 am on Thursday. Enquiries are currently at an early stage.

Following the incident, the local community has shown support for the garage after footage was shared on Facebook. The garage worker noted an “amazing response,” with information on suspect vehicles being passed to the police. Additionally, there have been numerous offers to help the apprentice replace the stolen tool, including financial contributions and offers of spare tools. “What has been quite impressive is the offers to buy our apprentice a new gun,” the worker said, describing the outpouring of support as “overwhelming.” The garage intends to purchase a new gun for the apprentice, who has also received a temporary replacement tool.

  3. Very annoying for an apprentice starting off, also for all of us who have worked hard to build up a selection of equipment for our trade < be it electrician, plummer, carpenter etc. These scum think they have the right to rob tradesmen tools.which they have collected from hard work

  4. I have had a number of incidents with “non english” persons who, as a mobile technician, have called me out to a vehicle issue. On completion of the work to the satisfaction of the owner they then tried to haggle agressively over the price even when told before hand the likely cost.
I no longer carry out “those” callouts.
