Plymouth has been crowned the UK’s most affordable city for drivers, according to a study by Motorpoint. The study compared fuel, car maintenance, and car insurance costs across various UK cities.
Plymouth scored a near-perfect 93 out of 100, with fuel prices at £1.42 per litre (compared to London’s £1.52). MOTs cost around £28 (compared to Truro’s £50), and services cost approximately £132 (compared to Oxford’s £286).
Car insurance in Plymouth is also significantly cheaper, averaging £1,714.21 per year (compared to Stoke-on-Trent’s £2,434.21).
Tips for saving money on car ownership:
- Shop around for car insurance: Compare prices and consider switching to a different provider.
- Consider independent garages: They often offer more competitive prices for MOTs and services.
- Opt for a nearly-new car: Save money compared to buying a brand-new vehicle.
- Factor in running costs: Consider fuel efficiency and how your choice will impact insurance premiums.
By following these tips, drivers can reduce their overall car ownership costs and maximise their savings.
