A Northumbria Police officer, PC Benjamin Warmington, has been dismissed for driving his vehicle without a valid MOT and for lying to his inspector about the incident.
An anonymous tip-off led to an investigation, which revealed that Warmington had driven the vehicle illegally on 51 occasions. Despite claiming to be unaware of the expired MOT, the panel found his explanation to be unconvincing.
The misconduct hearing panel concluded that Warmington’s actions had breached the standards of honesty and integrity expected of police officers. The panel emphasised the importance of public trust in the police and determined that dismissal without notice was the appropriate sanction.
Northumbria Police reaffirmed its commitment to upholding high standards of professionalism and accountability within the force.
