A resident of Hathershaw, Greater Manchester, has been forced to sell his electric car after facing significant challenges with charging infrastructure.
David Kelsall, a retired mechanic, was denied permission by Oldham Council to install a charging point outside his home due to concerns about trip hazards. Despite repeated attempts to resolve the issue, Mr Kelsall found himself reliant on public charging points, which he deemed unsafe and inconvenient.
The stress and inconvenience caused by the lack of charging options ultimately led Mr Kelsall to sell his electric vehicle and purchase a hybrid as a replacement. He expressed frustration with the council’s decision and highlighted the need for better support for electric vehicle owners who lack off-street parking.
Stories like this underscore the ongoing challenges faced by electric vehicle owners in accessing adequate charging infrastructure across the UK. As the number of electric vehicles on the road continues to grow, it is crucial for local authorities to implement policies that support the transition to electric mobility.

While I’m no supporter of Starmer, I have to agree with him on his comment the other day regarding civil servants (the men and women in grey suits) who run government at all levels and who lack a clear understanding of any issue and create issues when there are none.
There are a range of simple solutions available that have zero to minimum impact on H&S, which the unelected officials involved have failed to consider. While I’m no supporter of Starmer, I have to agree with him on his comment the other day regarding civil servants (the men and women in grey suits) who run government at all levels and who lack a clear understanding of any issue and create issues when there are none.
