Richard Hammond’s Smallest Cog garage, located in Rotherwas, Hereford, is currently recruiting for three positions: a mechanic, a panel beater, and a painter. The vacancies at the workshop, featured in the Discovery Plus programme Richard Hammond’s Workshop, were announced this month.

The Smallest Cog is seeking a mechanic with at least five years of experience working with classic vehicles. Applicants should possess comprehensive knowledge of various engines, suspensions, brakes, transmissions, and electrical systems, along with expertise in diagnosing mechanical issues and integrating modern upgrades while maintaining the vintage appeal of the vehicles.

The garage is also looking for a painter with a minimum of 10 years of experience and expertise in prep work. The ideal candidate will be proficient in accurately mixing and matching colours, using painting equipment, and working with different paint colours. Competence in blending and fading colours, as well as a keen eye for defects and precision, are also required.

For the panel beater position, the ideal candidate will be qualified with a minimum of 10 years of experience and highly skilled in shaping and repairing metal panels using both hand tools and machinery. They should be able to assess and devise repair strategies, be competent in welding and soldering, and have experience in sourcing and replacing damaged parts.

All applicants must possess strong problem-solving, communication, organisational, and time management skills, along with a proactive attitude. Candidates must also live within a commutable distance of the workshop in Rotherwas, Hereford, or be willing to relocate to the area.

Established in 2021, the Smallest Cog garage offers servicing and mechanical work on all vehicles, in addition to its well-known classic car restoration work. The business was founded after Neil, Anthony, and Andrew Greenhouse, who had previously worked on Hammond’s cars, faced the closure of their workshop, prompting the former Top Gear presenter to intervene.

Details on how to apply for these positions can likely be found through the official channels associated with Richard Hammond or the Smallest Cog garage.
