Volvo delays full electrification, prioritises hybrids

Volvo Cars has revised its electrification plans, extending the timeline for a fully electric lineup to 2030. The company now expects 90-100% of its sales to be electrified by that year, with hybrids accounting for up to 10%.

This shift reflects a growing trend in the automotive industry as major automakers recognise the continued demand for hybrid vehicles. Factors such as affordability and charging infrastructure limitations have influenced this change.

Volvo’s decision to prioritise hybrids aligns with their commitment to meeting customer preferences and evolving market conditions. The company aims for 50-60% of sales to be electrified by 2025, with a focus on plug-in hybrids.

Despite this adjustment, Volvo remains dedicated to its long-term vision of a fully electric future. They emphasise the need for government support and stable policies to facilitate the transition.

Volvo’s upcoming electric vehicles include the EX90 SUV and the upcoming ES90 saloon. By offering a mix of electric and hybrid options, Volvo aims to provide customers with the flexibility and choices they desire.
