A Wigan mechanic, Stuart Banks (32), has narrowly avoided jail time after pleading guilty to 30 charges of fraud under the 2006 Fraud Act. Between February and May 2023, Banks issued MOT certificates to vehicle owners without conducting the required safety tests.
Banks appeared at Wigan and Leigh Magistrates’ Court, where he admitted issuing false certificates for 30 vehicles. He was sentenced at Bolton Crown Court to a 10-month custodial sentence, suspended for 18 months.
Additionally, he was ordered to complete 200 hours of unpaid work and 20 days of rehabilitation activities.
