Neighbours in Woodside, Aberdeen, are campaigning to close an unauthorised garage operating on Anderson Avenue. Plus Motors has been running for two years from the former premises of Greco Developments, without receiving council approval. The business recently submitted a retrospective planning application to remain open.

However, nearby residents are urging the planning department to reject the proposal, citing several concerns. They report that cars being parked and worked on along the quiet residential street, just off Clifton Road, are causing congestion. Residents also complain of alarms sounding late at night and early in the morning, disturbing their sleep, and fumes from vehicles wafting into their gardens.

Pauline Alexander, a member of the Hilton and Woodside Community Council, submitted an objection on behalf of the group. She noted that issues have been consistently raised for two years, highlighting a “lack of customer parking and storage of vehicles waiting for repair.” This has reportedly impacted residents and three other established businesses on Anderson Avenue, with one business reportedly paying for its own driveway due to “abandoned cars” obstructing access.

Further complaints include “disgusting” fumes, which prevent residents from working or relaxing in their gardens and hanging out washing, raising health and safety concerns. Rachel Taylor, another neighbour, commented on the already problematic parking in the residential area, stating residents are “fed up” with the garage using the street for overspill. Emily Utter added that “damaged and defunct cars” are left on the street for weeks, and alarms are “frequently hear[d] during anti-social hours.”

In response, businessman Areej Aiman Mohamed Foumeen, who operates Plus Motors, stated he has plans to address the complaints. He acknowledged parking as a “main point of concern” and said an alternative plan would be submitted soon.

Despite the objections, one neighbour, Mohammed Ali, expressed support for Plus Motors, praising their “fair labour costs” and “talented staff.”
