New Alfa track control arm bushes ‘reduces noise’

Smooth chromium-based coating and additional grease between the metallic and plastic part reduces friction

New technology on track control arm bushes reduces noise.

Federal-Mogul Motorparts has released its latest MOOG Easy Solutions Bulletin (ESB), detailing improvements made to track control arm bushes on certain Alfa Romeo models.

MOOG has identified that the OE bushes can generate noise during standard driving conditions, due to the rough zinc phosphate coating creating excess friction.

To rectify this, MOOG has redesigned its product to use a smoother, chromium-based coating, helping to minimise friction and reduce the associated noises.

Moog reports: “The bushes which are fitted on the original upper track control arm can cause an aggravating noise during normal driving conditions.

“We discovered that the rough surface of the zinc phosphate coating used on the inner tube causes excess friction whilst the part moves within the plastic housing.

“It is this friction that generates the noise.

“The coating has been improved to a much smoother chromium-based finish which subsequently eliminates friction and the associated noise.

“In addition, MOOG added grease between the metallic and plastic components which eliminates any friction between these rotating components.”
