After the blow out, police discovered that the vehicle's tyres had absolutely no visible tread.

Police were called to remove a broken down vehicle from the A47 in Mulbarton late on Sunday after a tyre blow out.

The officers in attendance were startled to discover that vehicle’s tyres had no visible tread remaining.

Driving with tyres that have a tread depth below the legal limit is an offence that carries a fine of up to £10,000 and could result in loss of licence.

PC Jason Selvarajah, South Norfolk Police, tweeted: “PC Stu Barnard Beat Manager for Costessey called to deal with a broken down vehicle on the A47 Multbarton Vehicle had stopped due to suffering a blow out.

“Traffic offence report submitted after tyres were examined and found to be defective.”

So did the police fine the driver? As this could have ended with lives being lost due to an un-road worthy vehicle. Surely this should carry a higher fine and punishment then speeding?
That tyre was clearly bald and the driver clearly does not do routine checks.
This is becoming a frequent sight on our roads. And to think we are not a third world country.
