Poland will appeal against European Union rules to end the sale of petrol and diesel cars across the bloc from 2035 to the European Court of Justice.
This is according to the country’s climate minister Anna Moskwa.
Under a package of regulations approved by the European Parliament earlier this year, the EU wants to cut carbon emissions from passenger cars and vans to zero from 2035. The rules haven’t been formally endorsed by the European Council.
Poland is the only country to consistently oppose the proposal. It voted against the rules, saying they lacked a proper analysis of market and social consequences of the ban.
Anna Moskwa told Radio Zet: “We don’t agree with this and other documents from the Fit for 55 package and we’re bringing this to the European Court of Justice. I hope other countries will join.
“We will file the motion in the coming days.”
