A recent survey of 2,000 British drivers by Accident Advice Helpline has confirmed that parellel parking is the most hated manouevre in the UK, reports The Sunday Times.
Many admitted to driving almost one hundred metres away to find an easier spot if the first space looked tight, with 15 per cent of those polled admitting parallel parking leaves them anxious.
Most hated manoevres
- Parallel parking.
- Reverse into a parking bay.
- Reversing around a corner.
- Three-point turn/turn-in-the-road.
- Driving forward into a parking bay.
- Reversing in a straight line.
- Parking close to the curb.
- Navigating a roundabout.
- Emergency stop.
- Pulling up on the right of the road.
According to the poll, 47 per cent of drivers admitted to giving up on parallel parking after getting it horribly wrong and a quarter said they had somebody else finish it for them.
Spokesperson for Accident Advice Helpline David Carter commented: “Parallel parking has been a thorn in drivers’ sides since the invention of the motor car.
“We’ve all felt the pressure of getting into a tight parking space on a busy street when there are others watching.
“So it’s no surprise that twice as many people said they dread parallel parking as the next most difficult manoeuvre.”
