The 360 Mobility Forum in Taipei this week convened thought leaders and strategic thinkers to discuss the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) within the evolving landscape of mobility.
Discussions centred on AI in smart e-cockpits, humanoid robots, and autonomous vehicles, with a focus on developing practical solutions and long-term partnerships.
ST Liew, Vice President of Qualcomm Taiwan, addressed the transformation of the automotive sector, highlighting the increasing importance of computing technology and AI. He noted the shift towards software-defined vehicles, with OEMs focusing on in-car driver experiences, projecting a potential market of $449.5 billion by 2034.
Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Digital Chassis is positioned as a leading platform for AI-ready vehicle compute architecture, encompassing car-to-cloud connectivity, cockpit capabilities, and ADAS, all aimed at enhancing driving ease, safety, and enjoyment. The concept of multi-modal inputs suggests future vehicles will learn driver behaviour and preferences to offer personalised assistance.
Jim Chan, Vice General Manager of Delta Electronics Ltd, presented on the power demands of AI, discussing the need for microgrids to support increased energy consumption in AI applications, with a target of 24/7 carbon-free energy by 2030, including nuclear and hydrogen solutions. He also detailed Delta’s involvement in AI, fast charging stations for electric vehicles, and autonomous taxi initiatives in the US market.
Paul Wu, Founder and CEO of Carota, focused on software-defined mobility, citing software-related recalls as a significant issue. He explained how Carota assists manufacturers with software diagnostics and over-the-air updates to improve vehicle lifespan.
Dr Lin discussed the smart cockpit, tracing the history of electric vehicles to the rise of Elon Musk and AI integration. He also touched on the development of electric vertical take-off and landing vehicles (eVTOLs), potentially available within five years.
His presentation on AI highlighted trends such as the emersion of senses, entertainment, integration, interactivity, and individualisation, envisioning AI agents evolving into smart assistants capable of detecting and responding to driver states like tiredness or health issues to enhance safety. The potential future of humanoid robots was also mentioned.
