A court in Scotland has heard how a man and his former girlfriend stole three cars from a Volkswagen dealership in Elgin.
Darren Malone and Stephanie Lee targeted Hawco Volkswagen in January 2021, stealing a T-Roc, Golf and Audi A3. Of the cars worth a combined £64,425, only the T-Roc has been recovered.
Malone, who was part of a gang from Lothian, convinced Lee to drive him to the dealership after his driver let him down at the last minute.
Lee’s solicitor, Paul Dunn, told Inverness Sheriff Court: ”She has no previous convictions and was only in a brief relationship with Malone.
“Her role was relatively minor and she had no idea initially that she was becoming involved in an unlawful enterprise. But she then realised that something unlawful was to take place and she failed to take the opportunity to back out.”
Malone, who is serving a 610-day sentence for a separate offence, was sentenced to a further two years in prison with immediate effect. Lee’s sentence has been deferred until the end of July for a background report.
