An uninsured driver, Richard Jones (27), caused a van to become lodged under shutters at an Antrim tyre depot. The incident occurred while the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van was getting new tires.
To free the vehicle, air had to be let out of the tires. Jones admitted charges of driving without due care and attention and absence of insurance.
Despite claiming that another person had driven the van to the centre, District Judge Nigel Broderick noted Jones’s serious record related to insurance and driving offences.
Consequently, Jones received a three-month jail term, a two-year driving ban, and a £300 fine.
