Independent Advisor Car Insurance has conducted a study analysing the readability of owner’s manuals for 20 popular car models in the UK.
The study found Vauxhall models to be the most confusing, with the Corsa topping the list for difficulty. All three Vauxhall models included in the study (Corsa, Mokka, and Astra) were deemed equivalent to university-level reading.
The Volkswagen Polo was the only non-Vauxhall model in the top four, while Ford also featured prominently. The Audi A3 was found to have the most easily understandable manual.
The Kia Sportage held the record for the longest manual, with over 160,000 words, surpassing even classic novels like “Oliver Twist” and “The Lord of the Rings”.
The study emphasises the importance of clear and accessible information for car owners and technicians who need to quickly access information for vehicles they may be unfamiliar with..
