Nissan has unveiled the sound future electric vehicles with it’s “Canto” concept, which was debuted on its IMx concept car the Toyko Motor Show.
Developed with pedestrian safety in mind, the unique sound varies in pitch and tone depending upon the vehicle driving conditions.
Daniele Schillaci, Nissan executive vice president for global marketing and sales, zero-emission vehicles and the battery business, said: “An important element of Nissan Intelligent Mobility is how the vehicle integrates with society, and a crucial component of that is sound.”
“Canto” is derived from Latin for “I sing.”
Regulators are encouraging carmakers to increase the noise made by electric vehicles, with the EU ruling in 2014 that all new electric cars should make noise by 2019.
