The online garage and car repair marketplace, WhoCanFixMyCar.com, has appointed Andrew Harrison as their new chairman, who will hope to add to the 1.5 million repair requests it has already processed from motorists.

The new chairman was previously chief executive and chairman of Carphone Warehouse and is currently also chairman of online estate-agent, HouseSimple.

In summer 2018, WhoCanFixMyCar.com secured £4 million from investors including Shell Ventures, Sir Trevor Chinn, Active Partners and Venrex Investment Management.

The experienced executive joined the board as chairman from 26 March – he is also investing in the company.

Sir Trevor Chinn will step down as chairman but will retain his seat on the board.

Connecting garages with motorists

WhoCanFixMyCar.com is an online marketplace connecting more than 12,500 garage and repair centres with drivers around the UK.

The site has processed over 1.5 million repair requests from UK drivers and receives over 60,000 new job requests every month.

Al Preston, co-founder of WhoCanFixMyCar.com, said: “Andrew has led and grown some of the UK’s best-known companies and understands the transition from tradition retail to platform-driven digital consumers.

“We are extremely excited to be bringing him on board on the back of another record quarter for the business.”

Customer understanding

Sir Trevor Chinn, investor, former chair at WhoCanFixMyCar.com and other automotive companies, such as the AA, Kwik Fit and RAC, said: “We are absolutely delighted to welcome Andrew to the team – his experience in scaling successful businesses and understanding customers is invaluable.

“As well as running large, listed companies, he has real passion for supporting fresh, new business models such as WhoCanFixMyCar.com.”

Andrew Harrison said: “I’m delighted to be joining the board at WhoCanFixMyCar.com.

“Platform businesses represent fascinating opportunities with often only one or two players coming out on top in a given vertical.

“The team have done a wonderful job in building the foundations of a valuable business and I intend to throw my support and experience behind them in this next phase of growth.”

Ian Griffiths, co-founder of WhoCanFixMyCar.com, said: “Last year, we were excited to bring investors such as Venrex and Shell ventures to the region.

“Appointing Andrew, a well-known and respected business builder, as Chairman is another fantastic step in the growth of our business here in Newcastle.”
