MANN-FILTER’s W719/45 oil filter is supplied with a threaded male spigot as standard.
If the female thread on the engine block or filter housing becomes damaged, dirty or dry, the male spigot may dislodge from the filter when removed.
MANN-FILTER say this can cause confusion when installing the new filter and is reminding technicians to ensure that the spigot is attached to the filter being removed.
In a document, MANN-FILTER said: “The primary seals of ‘spin-on’ oil filters endure high pressure and temperature fluctuations during the filter service life.
“This can cause the seal to ‘stick’ to the sealing surface of the engine block, or oil filter housing, when the oil filter is removed.
“If a new oil filter is installed with the old oil seal still in position, an oil leak or filter detachment will almost certainly result.
“A quick check to ensure the oil seal is still attached to the filter removed will prevent costly consequences.”
