A Wigan mechanic is awaiting sentencing after admitting to issuing dozens of fraudulent MOT certificates.
Stuart Banks, 32, pleaded guilty to 30 charges of fraud at Wigan and Leigh Magistrates’ Court. The charges allege that between February and May 2023, Banks issued MOT certificates to vehicles without performing the required safety tests.
MOT (Ministry of Transport) tests are mandatory annual inspections that ensure a vehicle meets road safety and environmental standards. Failing to carry out a proper MOT test could put drivers and others at risk.
Banks was released on bail and will be sentenced at Bolton Crown Court on 18 October.
