Write-off figures increased by 55 per cent as vehicles too expensive to repair
Figures show BMW owners face the highest write-off risk.

Cars are being written off 55 per cent more than they were three years ago as vehicles are now too expensive to repair, according to Warranty Direct.

The average claim for a write off is almost four-thousand-pounds, with owners of BMWs being the most likely to see their cars crushed as one in 10 crashes now result in a write-off.

It is thought that despite a vehicle being repairable, costs of repairing pricey technology and materials are influencing insuranece firms to classify the motor as a write-off.

Highest write-off risks

  • BMW
  • Ford
  • Mercedes
  • Vauxhall
  • Audi
  • Nissan
  • Honda
  • Volkswagen
  • Hyundai
  • Peugeot

Warranty Direct chief executive officer, Simon Ackers, commented: “It’s clear from the recent steep rise in write-offs, advances in vehicle manufacturing and technology cannot always prevent irreparable damage.”
