A late-night beach visit was cut short after a man’s car was almost swept away by the rising tide.
Having been told his rescue service would be unable to help, the man was forced to contact Essex Police who were then left to haul the vehicle out of the waves before it was washed out to sea, reports the BBC.
Sgt Colin Shead commented: “The man had attempted to do a three-point turn to leave the beach, but instead got well and truly stuck in the sand and the tide was coming in.
We managed to tow the vehicle off of the beach and avoided the car being washed out to sea. Thankfully nobody was injured. pic.twitter.com/Hwy78aXVJh

“It took us more than 30 minutes to drive in two 4x4s from Colchester to Southend, by which time it was in deep water.
“The tide was lifting the car up and we were worried it would be taken out to sea, which would have caused even more problems.”
Sgt Shead added that the man had only had the vehicle for two weeks prior to the incident.
