Topping the list is the Range Rover Sport and, according to the data, parent company Land Rover is also the least reliable car brand.

New data has revealed the least reliable vehicles on the roads in Britain, with the Range Rover Sport dubbed the most unreliable.

Motoring experts at Warrantywise analysed records to find the vehicle makers whose models were most likely to make a warranty claim.

Results are based on the time under repair and cost of fixing faults.

They looked at older models aged between seven and ten years old and only those where it had more than 500 policies.

Most common faults

The most common faults with the 2010 Range Rover Sport include suspension, alternator, brake system and electrics, which are all prone to going wrong.

In second place was a 2008 Vauxhall Zafira, suffering faults including gearbox, clutch, ignition and electrical systems.

In third place was the Vauxhall Insignia 2011 model, likely to need repairs to the steering, engine, gearbox and glow plugs.

Other unreliable models include a 2008 Peugeot 207, a 2009 Vauxhall Astra, and 2011 Fiat 500.

The most unreliable brands were Land Rover, Jaguar and Volvo, while most reliable were Honda, Toyota and Skoda.

Lawrence Whittaker, chief executive of Warrantywise, said: “We gather first hand evidence from owners and dealers about the problems that can arise with the nation’s vehicles.

“We are not suggesting that these faults are guaranteed to occur, but this data is derived from genuine warranty claims.”

Land Rovers unreliable well there’s a surprise I wouldn’t mind as they generate lots of paying work buy some of the faults are out of this world to trace & components can be exasperating to change I thought the ethos of landrover was to be easily fixable on the road or off-road it’s seems to me that the only off road is to the customer
