The DVSA has suspended heavy vehicle testing all Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGV), trailers and Public Service Vehicles (PSV) for up to three months.

All HGVs, trailers and PSVs with an annual test due to expire will be issued with a three-month certificate of exemption (CTE) until further notice.

Paper certificates will not be re-issued for HGVs, trailers and PSVs but the DVSA has said that it will amend the digital record so that vehicles can continue to operate.

The Department for Transport has said it is keeping MOT testing for cars, motorcycles and light vans under review.

A DVSA spokesperson said: “We want to ensure that all heavy vehicles and trailers remain legal whilst the country deals with the COVID-19 outbreak.

“So DVSA will be implementing the provisions within the Plating and Testing Regulations and Motor Vehicle Test Regulations which provide for HGV and PSV vehicles to be exempted from the annual roadworthiness test.

“These are exceptional circumstances and we thank you for your understanding and patience.”

What Dvsa don’t state is their reason for doing this , if it is to protect their employees from the risk of covid 19 I understand and is a completely valid reason, however if this is the case why is it that garages should be putting their technicians and testers in harms way especially now with only essential movements now being allowed.
Surely the same extension can be applied to all motor vehicles with MOT’s expiring during these unprecedented times

Lockdown should be applied to all mot garages not just Hgvs, it should cover cars as well as the staff that do these mots are very much at risk.
