Rollout for connected version of diesel smoke meters, exhaust gas analysers and headlamp beam testers yet to be confirmed

DVSA updates guidance on how to request ‘key’ for connected MOT equipment

Official DVSA guidance on how to request a software code to connect equipment to the MOT testing service has been updated.

A DVSA spokesperson said: “When the engineer is on-site and ready to install your equipment you need to request a key and give it to them.

“The key will not work at another testing station and only works on one piece of equipment.”

To obtain a software code, users should sign into the MOT testing service and go to the ‘vehicle testing station’ page where they can ‘request a key’ under ‘change and connect equipment’.

The ‘key’ will be sent to the user’s email and should only be given to the engineer installing the equipment.

All new roller brake testers and decelerometers for class 3, 4, 5 or 7 must now be able to connect to the MOT testing service.

The rule does not apply to any current equipment.

The DVSA’s connected MOT equipment rule will also be extended to include diesel smoke meters, exhaust gas analysers and headlamp beam testers but dates are yet to be confirmed.

Prior to the pandemic, the DVSA had previously stated that connected emissions equipment would be introduced in late spring 2020 and connected headlamp aligners would be introduced in summer 2020.

As for the ‘key’ does each machine store it?

Just for reference the new electronic passports were hacked on day of release!

If Bob Marley comes along and starts jamming, does test get stopped?

Also on MOT history don’t show brake results anyway!
