Almost half of UK drivers admit to not knowing the basics when it comes to vehicle maintenance, new survey findings suggest.
A study of 2,000 drivers by YesAuto found 44 per cent find cars “confusing”, with three in ten unaware of how to pump up their tyres, let alone how much pressure should be maintained.
A quarter said they don’t know how to check tyre tread depth and 24 per cent did not know how to check their engine oil level.

Stuart Palombo, UK business director at YesAuto, said: “From the data we have gathered, many people cannot confidently navigate a car such as popping the hood or topping up the screen wash.
“This shows that motorists skills are lacking.”
The research suggested that many vehicle owners blame dealerships for not properly showing them the functions on their car and jargon in sales and servicing handbooks.
